About This Project

The property located at 1 West Liberty Street was originally constructed circa 1888 as a walled garden belonging to the adjacent historic residence at 3 West Liberty. The garden slowly transformed into a building over many additions and renovations resulting in retail space with storefront spanning its two street-facing facades. The entire structure measures only 2187 square-feet, a challenging amount of space to fit a full service restaurant and bar. To achieve this, the kitchen and service spaces were tucked in the rear of the building, allowing for a wide open dining area. The updated design conceals mechanical and electrical systems in a sweeping mahogany arched soffit, which flows below the beams and provides a more intimate experience at the bar. Patrons of The Public Kitchen and Bar now enjoy comfortable dining in several venues, including the restored rooftop terrace and café style seating on the sidewalk. This popular corner in Downtown Savannah is finally fulfilling its previously undeveloped potential as a polished, upscale restaurant with a warm ambiance, revitalizing the popular downtown Savannah corner at Liberty and Bull Streets.
